Training Tip of the Month: What Makes a Trained Boy Scout Leader?

The BSA has established the following training requirements for leaders in Boy Scout troops:

  1. Youth Protection: This is required for all registered leaders, including committee members and any other adults who have direct contact with youth. It can be taken online and is good for two years.
  2. Committee members (MC)  must take the Troop Committee Challenge, also online.
  3. Scoutmasters (SM) and assistant Scoutmasters (SA) must complete the SM/SA "indoor" training (three sessions, typically done as an all-day session or on three evenings) and Introduction to Outdoor Leader Skills (weekend camping).

Beginning in December 2013, the Cradle of Liberty Council will not recharter any units with untrained leaders. Untrained assistant Scoutmasters may choose to switch their registration to committee member.

Going forward, this newsletter will be distributed on the second Wednesday of each month. If you received this directly from the Cradle of Liberty Council, you're subscribed to the Training Newsletter list.
