Training Tip of the Month: What Makes a Trained Cub Scout Leader?

The BSA has established the following training requirements for leaders in Cub Scout packs:

  1. Youth Protection: this is required for all registered leaders, including committee members and any other adults who have direct contact with youth. It can be taken at MyScouting and is good for two years.
  2. Committee members must take the Pack Committee Leader Position-Specific training, also online.
  3. Den leaders and Cubmasters must complete Cub Scout Fast Start, "This is Scouting," and then Leader Specific training (Tiger, Wolf/Bear, Webelos, Cubmaster, Pack Trainer).  All of these are available online at MyScouting.
  4. Any unit planning an outdoor outing (hike, overnighter, etc.) must have at least one leader involved in planning and attending the event who is outdoor-leadership trained. This is BALOO for Cub Scout leaders and OWL for Webelos leaders.

Trained Today is distributed on the second Wednesday of each month. If you received this directly from the Cradle of Liberty Council, you're subscribed to the Training Newsletter list.
