Cub Scout Leaders

BALOO (Basic Adult Leader Outdoor Orientation):
At least one adult involved with any outdoor Cub Scout outing needs to be BALOO certified.

OWL (Outdoor Webelos Leadership):
Outdoor leadership for Webelos leaders, similar to BALOO (for Cubs) and IOLS (for Scouts).

Boy Scout Leaders

Scoutmaster/Assistant Scoutmaster Specific Training:
This is the all-day, "indoor" part of the required training for Scoutmasters and Assistant Scoutmasters.

Introduction to Outdoor Leader Skills:
This is the weekend camping part of the required training for Scoutmasters and assistant Scoutmasters, as well as Venturing crew leaders.


All Adult Leaders

Youth Protection:
This training can be completed online through MyScouting. All leaders must have completed this training within the last two (2) years. Course will also be offered "live" on November 11, 2014, contact fosterj@elwyn.org

Health Officer Training:
This training is mandatory for Resident Camp Health Officers, but is strongly encouraged for Health Officers at Day Camp, NYLT, Woodbadge and anyone else providing first aid care at council events.

COPE Instructor Basic Training:
Are you interested in becoming a COPE Instructor as a way to help others gain confidence and build teamwork? Join us September 5-7 at Resica Falls for the COPE Instructor training course! More information will be available in the June newsletter.

Leave No Trace Trainer:
Graduates will receive recognition as Leave No Trace Trainers with skills for training both Scout audiences and the general public. Youth qualify for the Leave No Trace Trainer leadership position their troop, team, or crew.

Experience Scouting's premier training course for ALL adult leaders! Please note you must attend all sessions (both weekends) to complete the course.

Shooting Sports Training Sessions

BB Range Master:
BB Range Master training is aimed at teaching adults how to safely run a BB gun range for council events. Safety procedures and safe gun handling are the keys to the training, along with how to work with the Scouts to develop good shooting habits. This does not certify someone to run a rifle range, nor to open the BB range just for their den or pack events.

Archery Range Master:
Archery Range Master training is aimed at teaching adults how to safely run an archery range for council events. Safety procedures and safe bow and arrow handling are the keys to the training, along with how to work with the Scouts to develop good shooting habits. This does not certify someone to open the archery range just for their den or pack events.

National Youth Leadership Training (NYLT)
National Youth Leadership Training is an exciting, action-packed program designed for councils to provide youth members with leadership skills and experience they can use in their home troops and in other situations demanding leadership of self and others. Start planning now to attend this great course!

Den Chief Training
Senior Scouts learn how to demonstrate leadership by assisting with a Cub Scout pack.

Philmont Training Center: The Philmont training Center offers a variety of training courses, some of which are available only at that location. See http://www.philmontscoutranch.org/ptc.aspx for more information.  Notable offerings in 2014 include Wilderness First Aid Train the Trainer, Effective Roundtables, Order of the Arrow Advisor Conference, Council and District Key 3, and many others.

Cubcast and Scoutcast: Scouting.org has a great page (http://www.scouting.org/Scoutcast.aspx) with webcasts on topics of interest to any Scouter. The May 2014 Cubcast features "How to Incorporate STEM in Your Den and Pack Meetings" while the Scoutcast features "Duty to God – It's More Than a Patch."

Training Tip of the Month: What is Wood Badge?

The Wood Badge for the 21st Century experience is training for adult leaders from all Scouting programs. It provides participants with firsthand knowledge regarding how teams develop and achieve excellence. Participants take part in an active learning process through involvement in planning, development, presentation and assessment. Participants will enjoy a world-class learning experience that will strengthen their long-term commitment to Scouting and provide them with valuable leadership skills.

Wood Badge is a series of fun and educational weekend training activities that develop you into a better Scout leader. There is some physical challenge involved, but nothing that should keep anyone from attending this great opportunity

Wood Badge is open to all Registered adult Scouters from Cub Scouting, Boy Scouting, and Venturing, who have completed the basic training and outdoor skills training programs appropriate for their Scouting positions.

In the Cradle of Liberty Council, Wood Badge will next be offered September 12-14 and October 18-20 at the Nelson Training Center. Register online today.
